Praised by Olyrix for his “virile, dense and sonorous voice”, Paweł Konik began the 2025/26 season with his debut as the Forester in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen and as Fritz Kothner in Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, both at his home theatre, the Staatsoper Stuttgart.
Later this season, Paweł returns to the Polish National Opera in Warsaw to create the role of Capulet in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette.
His recent debuts as Jochanaan in Strauss’ Salome, Amfortas in Wagner’s Parsifal, and the Traveller in Britten’s Death in Venice were met with great critical acclaim.
His further operatic repertoire includes roles such as Herr von Faninal Der Rosenkavalier, Orest Elektra, and Harlekin Ariadne auf Naxos, Donner Das Rheingold, Ford Falstaff, Sam in Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti, and Andrey Shchelkalov Boris Godunov, among others. He is also preparing his debut as the Wanderer in Wagner’s Siegfried.
In previous seasons, Paweł has appeared at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Oper Köln, Croatian National Theatre Ivan Zajc in Rijeka, Baltic Opera Festival, Baltic Opera in Gdańsk, Wrocław Opera, Silesian Opera, and Forum am Schloss in Ludwigsburg.
His concert and oratorio repertoire includes Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, Bach’s Johannes-Passion and Magnificat, Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Die Schöpfung, Mozart’s Requiem and Great Mass in C minor, Dvořák’s and Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, as well as Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 and Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen.
His concert and Lied engagements have led him to the Verbier Festival, Chopin and His Europe Festival, and the Brighton Festival, as well as performances with the Philharmonie Köln, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw, Sinfonia Varsovia, Silesian Philharmonic, Szczecin Philharmonic, Staatsorchester Stuttgart, Ballet Stuttgart, Les Talens Lyriques, Le Concert d’Anvers, Capella Cracoviensis, and Europa Galante.
Paweł Konik graduated from Yale University School of Music Opera Program, where he worked with Doris Yarick-Cross and Richard Cross. During studies at The Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, he made his debut at the Baltic Opera in Gdansk singing Shvochniev in Shostakovich/Meyer’s The Gamblers, for which he received a Jan Kiepura’s Music Award in the category of Best Singer’s Debut 2013.
