At just 27 years old, British tenor Samuel Stopford has already garnered widespread recognition after winning the 12th International Stanisław Moniuszko International Vocal Competition, where he claimed five prizes, including the coveted First Prize, and has been praised for “a voice of exceptional clarity and emotional insight - an artist of natural musical intelligence and rare potential.”
A current member of the Opera Studio at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Stopford’s seasons feature roles including Jaquino Fidelio, Lord Arturo Bucklaw Lucia di Lammermoor, Peter Henze’s Die englische Katze, Pong Turandot, Malcolm Macbeth, Gaston La traviata, Erster Geharnischter Mann/Zweiter Priester Die Zauberflöte, Parpignol La bohème, Der Haushofmeister bei Faninal Der Rosenkavalier, and Il Conte di Lerma Don Carlo.
In summer 2024, he joined the Young Singers Project at the Salzburger Festspiele, performing First Croupier in Peter Sellars’ new production of Prokofiev’s The Gambler. He is also an alumnus of the International Meistersinger Akademie (2023), where he sang in concerts with the Nürnberger Symphoniker and gave a lieder recital at the Reitstadel Neumarkt, broadcast on Bavarian Radio.
As a concert soloist, Stopford made his Wigmore Hall debut in 2024 performing Liszt’s Tre sonetti di Petrarca. He also appeared with the Manhattan Symphony Orchestra in three concerts at the Shanghai Symphony Hall, and performed to open the WDCAL World Solo Dance Championships at the Shenzhen Universiade Sports Stadium to an audience of over 12,000, reaching a further 1.2 million via livestream.
A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, London, Samuelreceived distinctions in both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Hewas awarded the Bicentenary & ABRSM Scholarships, won SecondPrize and the Song Prize in the Richard Lewis/Jean Shanks Award,and received HRH Princess Alice’s Prize for Exemplary Studentship.
