At just 26 years old, English tenor Samuel Stopford is rapidly emerging as one of the most exciting young tenor voices of his generation. He gained international recognition after winning the Moniuszko International Vocal Competition, where he has been praised for “a voice of exceptional clarity and emotional insight - an artist of natural musical intelligence and rare potential.”
A current member of the Opera Studio at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Stopford’s seasons feature roles, including Jaquino Fidelio, Malcolm Macbeth, Peter enze’s Die englische Katze, and Gaston La traviata, Lord Arturo Bucklaw Lucia di Lammermoor, Erster Geharnischter Mann/Zweiter Priester Die Zauberflöte, Parpignol La bohème, Der Haushofmeister bei Faninal Der Rosenkavalier, and Il Conte di Lerma Don Carlo.
In summer 2024, he joined the Young Singers Project at the Salzburger Festspiele, performing First Croupier in Peter Sellars’ new production of Prokofiev’s The Gambler. He is also an alumnus of the International Meistersinger Akademie (2023), where he sang in concerts with the Nürnberger Symphoniker and gave a lieder recital at the Reitstadel Neumarkt, broadcast on Bavarian Radio.
As a concert soloist, Stopford made his Wigmore Hall debut in 2024 performing Liszt’s Tre sonetti di Petrarca and appeared with the Manhattan Symphony Orchestra in three concerts at the Shanghai Symphony Hall.
