Aigul Akhmetshina appears in a solo recital at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires
On the afternoon of the 14th September, Aigul Akhmetshina appears in a solo recital at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires. This concert is part of a global tour with which the world-class mezzo soprano is cementing her international reputation.

Of Bashkir and Tatar origins, Aigul shot to fame when, aged only 21, she jumped in in the title role of Carmen at the then-named Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. From their young artist programme to the stages of the Metropolitan Opera and Glyndebourne, Aigul has since become to go-to singer for Bizet's heroine, and it is ttherefore no surprise that both the Habanera  and Seguidilla appear prominently in today's programme. These signature arias close the first half of the concert, which focuses on the operatic canon explored so successfully in her much-praised eponymous album on the Decca label. Alongside Carmen, Aigul will also display her talents in roles with which has already become strongly associated with internationally, including Olga and Rosina.

In the second half of the programme, Aigul, alongside long-time collaborator Jonathan Papp, present a programme of song. Russian and Hungarian composers feature, alongside local Argentinian composers including Carlos Guastavino and Carlos Gardel. The concert concludes with another classic of the Spanish song - the language shared by both Argentian's and Aigul's most famous titular charater - Agustín Lara's famous "Granada".

The concert lasts 100 minutes, with one interval.
