Aigul Akhmetshina returns as Carmen to the Metropolitan Opera

This Sunday, the world's favourite Carmen returns to the Metropolitan Opera. Following her debut as Maddalena in 2022, Aigul Akhmetshina has conquered the world as Bizet's tragic heroine, including in this house in the 2023-2024 season, where she was the youngest singer ever to perform Carmen at the Met. For that performance, she was rightly praised for her "smoldering, rich-bodied voice", which "carried effortlessly into the Met’s vast auditorium" and also her "totally beguiling interpretation... colored with great emotion, humor and depth" (Bachtrack).

Under the baton of Pier Giorgio Morandi, Aigul is joined by star tenor Michael Fabiano as Don José in this revival of Carrie Cracknell's production. If you're in New York, try and smuggle yourself a ticket for this any way you can!
