Mezzo‑soprano Aigul Akhmetshina makes her Proms debut singing Ravel’s Shéhérazade
This August, acclaimed mezzo‑soprano Aigul Akhmetshina will make her debut at the BBC Proms, performing Ravel’s sumptuous song‑cycle Shéhérazade with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Edward Gardner. The performance takes place on 10 August 2025 at the Royal Albert Hall.

Akhmetshina joins a programme of evocative orchestral works, including Sibelius’s The Oceanides, Tippett’s The Rose Lake, and Debussy’s La mer, all underscoring the concert’s theme of water imagery and soundscapes. Her appearance in Shéhérazade marks a milestone in her international career, offering a rare opportunity to hear her voice in this richly expressive French repertoire on one of the world’s greatest classical music stages.

Already known for her commanding interpretations of Carmen, Akhmetshina brings to Shéhérazade lyrical refinement and interpretive depth. This Proms debut aligns with her expanding work in orchestral song and cements her presence as a leading voice in French music.
