Mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina returns to Arena di Verona’s anniversary Carmen with Alagna and Kurzak
This summer, mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina reprises her acclaimed role as Carmen in the grand anniversary production at the Arena di Verona, set for July 4, 2025, part of the opera’s 150th celebration.

Akhmetshina brings renewed maturity and dramatic depth to the fiery gypsy whose irresistible allure and emotional complexity define Bizet’s masterpiece. Known for her magnetic stage presence and secure vocal technique, she once again leads this striking production, set in Franco Zeffirelli’s timeless staging.

Joining her are international stars: Aleksandra Kurzak as Micaëla, bringing warm lyricism and poignant sincerity to the role, and Roberto Alagna as Don José, whose passionate intensity rounds out a powerful principal trio.

Under the baton of Francesco Ivan Ciampa, the Arena’s orchestra, chorus, and dancers unite for what promises to be a highlight of Verona’s summer season - one that combines spectacle, vocal brilliance, and the enduring drama of Carmen in one of opera’s most legendary venues.
