Ólafur Sigurðarson returns to La Scala as Alberich
Baritone Ólafur Sigurðarson is currently appearing as Alberich in Wagner’s Siegfried at Teatro alla Scala, continuing his critically praised interpretation of the role in Sir David McVicar’s new Ring cycle. Performances run through June 21, 2025, with the production conducted by Simone Young and Alexander Soddy.

Sigurðarson’s Alberich has been described as “electrifying and emotionally layered,” earning acclaim for his dramatic command and vocal power. His performance in Das Rheingold earlier this season was singled out for its intensity and nuance, with critics highlighting his ability to project both menace and pathos in equal measure.

No stranger to major Wagnerian stages, Sigurðarson has brought Alberich to life in previous productions across Europe, including performances at the Bayreuth Festival.

This staging of Siegfried continues La Scala’s ambitious full Ring cycle under McVicar’s direction, and Sigurðarson’s commanding presence as Alberich is set to be one of the production’s most compelling elements.
