Szymon Mechliński returns to the Teatro Real this month for his role debut as Lescaut in Puccini's Manon Lescaut, the opera that opens Teatro Real's 2026/27 season and marks its return to the house after 102 years away. The new production, staged by Carlos Wagner and conducted by Nicola Luisotti, is a co-production with Oper Köln. Mechliński sings the role on 24th, 27th and 30th September, and 3rd, 6th and 9th October.

The Polish baritone, winner of the Stanisław Moniuszko International Vocal Competition, has built a reputation as one of his generation's emerging Puccini interpreters, with recent highlights including his debut at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly and his performance as Marcello in La bohème at the Polish National Opera, where he was praised for “offering a voice full of power and brilliance."
