Vladislav Sulimsky sings at the Opernhaus Zürich this November, taking the title role in Rachmaninoff’s Aleko, opening 1st November. Aleko is one of three one-act operas in a new Rachmaninoff triple bill: Sulimsky also sings the Baron in The Miserly Knight and Lanciotto Malatesta in Francesca da Rimini on the same evening. The production is directed by Dmitri Tcherniakov and conducted by Gianandrea Noseda, and Sulimsky sings on 1st, 4th, 8th, 15th, 18th, 21st and 28th November.
Sulimsky’s Rachmaninoff is already well known to audiences. Reviewing his Lanciotto at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Jenny Camilleri of Opera Today wrote that he “turned his scene into a mini-opera, eliciting with his formidable baritone fear and revulsion, but also pity and understanding.”
Having opened his season as Baron Scarpia in Tosca at Deutsche Oper Berlin and in Rachmaninoff’s The Bells with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Sulimsky goes on to sing Tomsky in The Queen of Spades in concert with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the title role in Mazeppa at the Bayerische Staatsoper and Gryaznoy in The Tsar’s Bride at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, before the season closes with a return to Munich as Tomsky in Pique Dame.
