Also noteworthy is Goderdzi Janelidze's dark Sparafucile

More menacing, however, is Goderdzi Janelidze, in the role of Sparafucile, the assassin. He emerges from the shadows with a deep, cavernous bass lined with rich low tones

First, we should note the impressive Sparafucile by Goderdzi Janelidze, a powerful bass making a more than promising debut at the Paris National Opera

At the heart of the story are two brothers, Pagano and Arvino, rivals for the heart of a woman. The first, the true thread of the drama to whom Verdi gives the longest stage presence, is played by Goderdzi Janelidze. This great villain (he kills his father while trying to murder his brother) who becomes a hermit with miraculous powers, expresses himself here with a sepulchral and vibrant voice, whose very wide range fills the hall

Goderdzi Janelidze is convincing as Pagano, whose ambivalence he conveys well (brutal in the first act, repentant and seeking forgiveness in the last three)
