In Russia, he has conducted the Russian State Symphony Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Russian National Orchestra, Mariinsky Orchestra, and musicAeterna, to name a few.
In 2021, he led the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra in its Lucerne Festival debut, followed by their first CD release featuring Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 “Pathétique”.

Valentin is the winner of the 8th Sir Georg Solti International Conducting Competition in Frankfurt and the 5th Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition in Bamberg.

Born in Lozovaya, Ukraine, Uryupin first gained international attention as a clarinettist, winning more than 20 international competitions and performing worldwide before devoting himself fully to conducting.
He studied both clarinet and conducting at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, under Gennady Rozhdestvensky and Evgeny Petrov, and received guidance from Valery Gergiev, Teodor Currentzis, and Vladimir Jurowski, as well as participating in Kurt Masur’s final masterclass.

Although his solo career has largely given way to his conducting path, he continues to appear occasionally in play-conduct performances, combining both roles, and remains an active and passionate chamber musician.
