Valentin Uryupin and Vladislav Sulimsky star in The Maid of Orleans at the Dutch National Opera
Tonight, the Dutch National Opera presents one of Tchaikovsky's lesser-performed works: The Maid of Orleans. This tale of Joan of Arc, in a brand new production by Dmitri Tcherniakov, stars two MKI artists: Vladislav Sulimsky as Dunois and the conductor Valentin Uryupin.

This co-production with the Metropolitan Opera places Joan of Arc in a courtroom, and Tchaikovsky's score grants Valentin Uryupin a powerful force with which to debut at the DNO. Leading the Netherlands Philharmonic tonight, he is definitely the conductor to follow at his next engagements in Europe. Globally recognised, baritone Vladislav Sulimsky is making his DNO debut as well, joined by Elena Stikhina singing the title role. With director Dmitri Tcherniakov's renowned experience in the Russian repertoire, these are sure to be psychologically-focused and powerful character portraits.
