Derek Welton's exceptional command of the Wagnerian bass-baritone repertoire continues as he jumps in to save the day at La Scala. Two operas in the space of just two days: Wotan in Die Walküre this Wednesday, and the Wanderer in Siegfried on Friday. Derek is “unsurpassable” in the role (Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger), and “simply dazzling with power and presence” (Forum Opéra), joining fellow MKI artists in this highly anticipated revival.

Ólafur Sigurðarson and Norbert Ernst appear as Alberich and Loge in Das Rheingold, with Ólafur Sigurðarson also singing Alberich in Siegfried. Both performances are conducted by Alexander Soddy in David McVicar's production. These performances mark Derek's highly anticipated debut at La Scala — a fitting moment to confirm his standing as one of the world’s leading Wotans.
