Derek Welton returns to the Royal Albert Hall for the BBC Proms on 20th July, singing the bass solo in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Philharmonia Orchestra under the baton of Gianandrea Noseda.
Welton last appeared at the Royal Albert Hall in 2024 as part of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s Wagner Gala at the Proms, performing excerpts from Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Das Rheingold and Die Walküre. His performances drew widespread acclaim, with critics praising his “quite remarkable ability to interpret what he is singing” and the “hugely poetic” quality of his artistry.
The Proms appearance brings an outstanding 2025/26 season to a close before Welton embarks on an equally impressive 2026/27 season. Highlights include Wotan in Die Walküre at the Hamburgische Staatsoper, Der Wanderer in Siegfried at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, the title role in Mendelssohn’s Elias at the Theater und Philharmonie Essen, and Orest in Elektra at the Royal Ballet & Opera. In concert, he will also appear with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and at the Wiener Konzerthaus.
