Tonight, Elektra opens at the Wiener Staatsoper, with Derek Welton starring as Orest. A titan of the German dramatic repertoire, Derek returns to both house and role in this revival of Harry Kupfer's legendary production, for which his ''bronzed, well-projected tone'' was previously praised whilst an ensemble member of the house (Elektra, Vienna, The Opera Critic 2020).

Under the baton of Alexander Soddy, Derek joins a cast of noted dramatic singers through four performances in the run-up to Christmas, performing December 14, 17, 20 and 23.
