At just 25 years old, Azerbaijani mezzo-soprano Elmina Hasan is swiftly emerging as one of the most compelling young voices on the operatic stage today, with a voice of rich expressiveness and instinctive dramatic presence.
This season Hasan makes a series of important debuts including her house debut as Carmen at Wiener Staatsoper, followed by Siébel Faust at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie - Liège and Dorabella Così fan tutte Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. She returns to the Bayerische Staatsoper as Lola Cavalleria Rusticana, and again for Fenena Nabucco and Maddalena Rigoletto. She also makes her North American debut as Olga Eugene Onegin at Santa Fe Opera Festival.
Recent highlights include Olga Eugene Onegin at the Teatro alla Scala, Marchesa Melibea Il viaggio a Reims at Deutsche Oper Berlin, and Fenena Nabucco at both Teatro Verdi Trieste and Salle Gaveau Paris, where she shared the stage with Plácido Domingo. She has also appeared as Lola Cavalleria Rusticana at the Bayerische Staatsoper and as Dorabella Così fan tutte at the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera.
Her achievements in vocal competitions have garnered international recognition. She was awarded Second Prize, the Pepita Embil Prize for Zarzuela, and the Rolex Audience Prize at Operalia Competition in Mumbai, and previously received First Prize at the Black Sea International Opera Competition.
